Slam bookreview

Author: Nick Hornby

Publisher: Penguin work

The main character in the book is Sam. His parents are divorced and Sam lives with his mom. Sam and Mom have a good relationship and they get along. Sam doesn’t know his father very well.

He got skating as a hobby, and skates very often. Both his friends skate, but he doesn’t like them so much. Sam goes to school and he thinks about taking art on college.

Sam meets a girl in a grown up party. Her name is Alicia, and Sam fall in love with her at once. Alicia and Sam get together very soon. Alicia want too have sex, but Sam isn’t that sure. He is a little scared because his parents got him when they were 16 years old, and he don’t want to make the same mistake. But they end up doing it anyway.

Off course Alicia gets pregnant, and they decide to have the baby. When Sam finds out, he run away to Hastings (they live in London). After a day in Hastings, Sam gets his mind back and goes back to London. There they tell their parents, who get upset and angry. The parents accept it at last, and they make plans for the future. In the end of the book, we find out that Sam and Alicia don’t live with each other.

I think the book where OK, not more or not less. Slam takes up an interesting theme, with teenage pregnancy, and responsibility and more. Slam also has some few funny parts, like when Sam is in Hastings. But Slam is not my kind of book. There is no action, in very few funny parts. Often you get bored when you read it. It doesn’t really happen much.

The themes of the book can be many things like: teenage pregnancy, love, growing up, responsibility, and choices. You can decide for yourself when you read it. But I don’t recommend you reading it!!

Jeg kommer små-joggende inn på banen. Her føler jeg meg hjemme her, tenker jeg.
